Her former husband, the Duke of York, is in a word: an enabler.

Sarah says in the piece that "This is the first time ever in my life, and I mean 'ever', that I have been debt free."
I thought she had freed herself from her old debts a while ago, by doing Weight Watchers, Ocean Spray and Wedgewood promotions. Remember, and she got coverage for 'remaking' her life independently. Perhaps it wasn't true, and a certain Royal Duke was actually helping her. I thought the debt she was in now was of a newer vintage, from Hartmoor.
Honestly, I think she's Becky Sharp and Andrew is her Jos Sedley from the novel Vanity Fair!
She did pay off her first debts acquired before the divorce. These debts have to do with Hartmoor and other things.
I agree that she's only sorry because she got caught. The woman is nothing but trouble. As for her ex-husband, he appears to have a propensity for poor judgment.
