Former Queen Elisabeth of Greece "resumed Rumanian citizenship today, lending apparent substance" to reports that she and former King George are now divorced, reports the Associated Press.
Elisabeth spends much of her time in Bucharest with her brother, King Carol of Rumania, and her mother, Dowager Queen.  She chose to live in Bucharest rather than accompany the former King on "his prolonged hunting expedition to India.

According to Rumanian law, the "wife without exception takes the citizenship of her husband."  Thus, when Elisabeth married King George II of the Hellenes, she became a citizen of Greece and ceased to be a Rumanian citizen.  When the Rumanian Supreme Court granted Elisabeth Rumanian citizenship, "court circles drew the inference that the divorce was an accomplished fact."
