King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain have arrived in Denmark for a state visit. Queen Margrethe II and Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary today welcomed them.
Earlier today, Queen Margrethe II bestowed the Order of the Elephant on King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. In return, the Spanish king gave the Grand Cross of Spain’s Royal Order of Isabella the Catholic to Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary. During the last state visit in 1980 by King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia, Queen Margrethe received the Grand Cross of the Order of Charles III with chain, which is traditionally given to heads of state.
It was in 1985, when Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik paid a state visit to Spain, King Juan Carlos bestowed on the queen The Distinguished Order of the Golden Fleece, which is usually reserved for royals. At tonight's state banquet, Queen Margrethe II wore the Golden Fleece.

Actually, she did not receive the Golden Fleece until 1985. That’s why she did not wear it for her State Visit to Spain in 1983. It was yesterday the first time she has worn it.
Coverage of the visit in Spain has been overshadowed by the publications of pictures of a recent private visit that Frederik paid to Madrid, where he was photographed with Genoveva Casanova, a well-known socialite and former daughter-in-law of the late Duchess of Alba. There's a lot of speculation in Spain about the nature of F & G's relationship. They could lovers or just friends... but with or without benefits?
Spanish Golden Fleece was bestowe to women only in 1985, to Queen Beatrix and few days later to Queen Margarethe. The late Queen EII only in 1989. All had the Collar of Charles III before.
