Zarzuela Palace has now confirmed that Queen Sofia and the Prince and Princess of Asturias will be attending the wedding of Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton. This is not a surprise. King Juan Carlos, who rarely attends such gatherings, has designated his wife and son (and his wife) to represent him at the wedding.
If the King had decided to go, the representation would have included himself and his wife, but not the Prince and Princess of Asturias. Only the sovereigns received the invitation.
