The Lady Saltoun

The Lady Saltoun is the widow of Captain Alexander Ramsay of Mar, only son of the former Princess Patricia of Connaught and the Hon. Sir Alexander Ramsay.  Princess Patricia was styled as Lady Patricia Ramsay after her wedding.    Lady Saltoun is a Scottish peer in her own right.

Membership in the Royal Family can extend to the children of a princesss (who is not the sovereign), but not the princess' grandchildren.

It seems unusual Lady Saltoun made the list while there isn't a Harewood in the bunch.

Not at all unusual. Lady Saltoun is the widow of a son of a princess. Lord Harewood is also the son of a princess, but he is elderly and frail. If any of his children were invited, they would not be listed with the royal family, but his children have very few ties to the Royal Family.

Is the Duke of Fife similarly indisposed, he is 81 now. He should be on the list shouldn't he?

No idea, but he is elderly and lives in Scotland.

Lady Saltoun is a close friend of the Queen and the senior members of the royal family. The Queen considers her a member of the family, although she is not a blood relative. Her late husband's branch of the family have a long history of service to the Crown, and Lady Saltoun herself is an elected member of the House of Lords and regularly commutes to London from Scotland. She is often present at royal events in Scotland. The Harewoods stepped out of royal life decades ago. I'm not sure why the Duke of Fife or a representative are not attending - they may have been invited, we don't know. It's more likely they will attend the next coronation, which is a totally different kind of event.

Yes, I am well aware of Lady Saltoun's status. I have known her daughter, Katharine, for many years. Lady Saltoun's mother-in-law, Lady Patricia (nee Princess) eschewed the royal life, and preferred to live a private life.
