Kate Middleton has German ancestors

This was an April Fool's story, although it appears that Australian royal genealogist Leo van de Pas  fell for it..    http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/GEN-MEDIEVAL/2011-04/1301712668

This article appeared in the German newspaper Iserlohner Kreisanzeiger und Zeitung, Lokalteil Hemer.  Many thanks for allowing me to reprint the story and the translation.

It is a sensation!: The relations between the British royal family and Hemer to grow. An American royal expert needle has  discovered that an ancestor of Kate Middleton, who will marry Prince William  on 29 April comes from Hemer. Marlene Eilers Koenig has written several books about the British royal family, including Queen Victoria's Descendants.. Now she has been following the trail of the ancestors of  Catherine "Kate" Middleton, a British-born commoner,  and had a surprising find. "It was so great for me to see that Catherine Middleton has German ancestors, just like me," said Marlene Eilers Koenig, who spoke with excitement to the local Hemer newspaper.  Genealogists, such  as the late William Addams Reitwiesner and Michael J. Wood added  to Catherine Middleton's family tree research, but they remained in the direct paternal line with her great-great-great-great-grandfather, John Middleton, who in 1838 was a carpenter in Yorkshire.

Marlene Eilers Koenig found out that he had German ancestors. With the help of city archivist Hemers Eberhard Thomas, they found that John Middleton's father's name was Johann Peter Middlelstein, who came from Deilinghofen! The research of city archivist Thomas revealed that Johann Peter Middlestein was born in 1781 in Deilinghofen as son of a carpenter. By 1800, he emigrated to England, where his name is the first in Middlestone and then changed in Middleton. He married in England, reached two of his seven children to adulthood, including John Middleton.

The royal family has ties to Hemer. In 1984 Prince William's father Prince Charles visited Hemer. In , 1981, his aunt Princess Anne, as honorary chief of the regiment, "Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters" based in Hemer, inspected the troops. In 1991, the Duke of Kent, the cousin of Prince Williams grandmother Queen Elizabeth, also paid a visit to Hemer.

Hopefully, William and Kate will also find their way to Deilinghofen.

and the original story, which was published solely in the newspaper's print edition, and not in the online edition.

Ah, these people are usually always first with the news. But I was sort of disappointed they neglected the story of HM being caught in a gale and swept out into the Irish sea during an official visit to Anglesey this morning. President McAleese announced this afternoon that as soon as the Irish Coast Guard nets pick up the Queen, Her Majesty's long-awaited state visit to the Republic will go on ahead of schedule. KUA International says HM had a premonition this would happen and telephoned ahead to Prince William that if she was blown out into the drink to tell his air-sea rescue team that she is wearing an antique diamond brooch expressly so she could sparkle quite brilliantly in their search lights.

I thought we might hear on April 1 that you were releasing Queen Victoria's Descendants as an ebook. :-)
