Italian princess to marry a duke

The engagement of Princess Maria Adelaide of Savoy-Genoa and Don Leone Massimo, Duke di Antocoli-Corrado,. was announced today, reports the Associated Press.  The Princess, who celebrates her 31st birthday on April 25, is the 5th child and second daughter of the late Prince Tommaso of Savoy, Duke of Genoa, and Princess Marie Elisabeth of Bavaria. 

The Princess is the granddaughter of the late Prince Ferdinando of Savoy-Genoa, who was the brother of the late King Vittorio Emanuele II, the grandfather of the present King of Italy.     She lives in Turin with her younger brother, Prince Eugenio.  Her eldest brother,  Ferdinando, Duke of Genoa, is the present head of the family, as Prince Tommasso died in 1931.

Don Leone, 39, is the son of Prince Francesco, 4th Prince di Arsoli.   He received the ducal title, formerly held by his uncle, in April 1904 by special decree of King Vittorio Emanuele III.

The Massimo family have "for centuries been leaders of patrician society in Rome."  Don Leone lives with his father at the Palazzo Massimo alle Colonne in Rome.

The date of the wedding has not been announced.
