Critically ill Isabella refuses to die in Spain

April 19, 1931

Eighty-two year old Infanta Isabella of Spain was placed on a stretcher and carried to a waiting ambulance earlier today for a "bumpy ride of thirty miles" to a railroad car with drawn blinds.  She will be taken on the train, and tonight she will begin a "journey through the Spanish mountain passes from Madrid,"where she lived all of her life, to "die in France, reports the New Times.

"Since Spain has gone republican, I shall die in France."   The Infanta, who is King Alfonso XIII's aunt, remains strong-minded in her determination to be taken to France.
