A very nice photo. The headgear is interesting - besides the Pickelhauben worn by the Grand Duke and the gentlemen in the background, the Duke of Brunswick's hat seems vaguely Indian. Some regimental headgear, perhaps? If it's fur, it certainly isn't keeping his ears warm!
The Duchess is certainly stylish and wouldn't look out of place at a formal gathering today.
It must have been a formal occasion during the war.
Is it just me or is he wearing a tortoise's head as a chapeau?
