What entails "full state honours" in Serbia these days? I'm not entirely clear with what HRH is requesting. I fully support the spirit of the initiative but if full state honours includes processions, honour guards, etc., that might be a little much to ask for.
not sure -- and I do not think we will know until something happens. But a state funeral should be accord to Marie, Peter and Alexandra. It is what a mature Serbia should do.
I think Serbia will accord them a full state funeral. They returned many of the families former properties and have allowed Alexander II to have a public role without complaining. It's the right and moral way.
What property? Crown Prince Alexander has not received property back. The state owns the two palaces.
Princess Elizabeth said in an interview that CP Alexander had an agreement with the government that he wont ask palaces to return to him in exchange for lifelong usage of the two palaces for him,his wife and his 3 sons...
Many other members of the Kardjordjevic family protested this agreement as they are also heirs to King Alexander I who owned the palaces, but CP says that he as a Head of the family had the right to choose...
Btw,there might be a state funeral after all in honor of the past rulers, especially Queen Marie as she was very much loved by the people and still today some people remember her as:"Good Queen Maria"
this information is incorrect. Princess Elizabeth's line has no claim to the two palaces (which are really large houses) as her father was never a dynast. Paul's line has never had rights to the throne. It was KIng Alexander's idea that the two homes would become the homes of his three sons. Paul, as one of the regents for the minority KIng Paul, was allowed to live in the Beli Dvor during that time period, but he never owned the property. Not that long ago (6 months), Alexander was interviewed, and he discussed the palace situtation. He was receiving some financial support from the state for upkeep,. but the state has not been providing assistance although the state owns the property. CPAlex is allowed to live there, but he is largely responsible for the upkeep. He does not own the property. I understand there are family issues regarding the property, but Elizabeth's family has no claim on these two palaces.
