Did you know that Queen Victoria attended the wedding of her granddaughter, Princess Alix of Hesse and by Rhine, to Nicholas II of Russia? Well, at least according to Wikipedia, she did.
Hit Buzzer. Wrong answer. Incorrect.
Queen Victoria did not travel to Russia to attend the wedding. She sent her son, the Prince of Wales, accompanied by his wife, Alexandra (sister of the Dowager Empress) and the Duke of York.
She did attend the wedding in Darmstadt in 1884 when Princess Victoria of Hesse and By Rhine to Prince Louis of Battenberg, as well as the marriage of Victoria's brother, Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig, when he married his first cousin, Princess Victoria Melita of Edinburgh. It was at this wedding in April 1894 that Princess Alix accepted Nicholas's proposal.
On the day of the wedding (November 26, 1894), Queen Victoria was at Windsor Castle. She went for a carriage ride with Princess Beatrice and Princess Maud of Wales, according to the Court Circular.
Oh, the Joses of the world who do not take the time to check facts.
