King Michael of Romania issued a statement from his hotel suite in Lausanne, denying reports from Bucharest, according to the Associated Press.
His statement was emphatic. He did not abdicate his throne because of his wish to marry Princess Anne of Bourbon-Parma. He also made it clear that he did not bring with him "refugees from Romania," or that he has a "personal fortune" one million dollars.
His personal aide, Major Jacques Vergotti "stressed" that the King abdicated his throne, but "not his title."
