The Count of Caserta, whose son, Carlos, will soon marry Infanta Mercedes of Spain," received a "hostile reception" when he arrived in Madrid today.
The New York Times reports that the Count, who was met at the railroad station by the Infantas Isabel and Eulalia, and the Foreign Minister, Senor Campos, was subject to the hoots and hiises of a crowd outside the station. Some cried: "Spit on him."
The ""hostility was due to the speeches made recently" by numerous Spanish politicians and to articles in the newspapers against the forthcoming marriage of the Princess of Asturias and and Prince Carlos. This opposition is due to the role the Count of Caserta played in Don Carlos' uprising.
Police were called into disperse the crowd.
