The Bernadottes arrive in the USA

November 3, 1930

Count and Countess Folke Bernadotte, accompanied by their infant son, Gustaf, arrived in New York City today, on the Swedish-American liner Kungsholm.  They will be visiting the countess' parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Edward Manville, both of whom were at the pier to meet them, according to the New York Times.
The Count "denied reports that he would enter business here."
The former Estelle Romaine Manville and Count Folke Bernadotte af Wisborg, a nephew of King Gustaf V, were married on December 1, 1928, at Pleasantville, New Yorok, in a "military ceremony that glittered with the pomp of position and wealth and marked one of the most brilliant society gatherings in recent years."
The Countess is "the prospective heiress to $25,000,000" of a fortune founded by her grandfather, Charles Brayton Manville, the 'asbestos king.'  Their son, Gustaf Edward, who was born in Sweden last January 30, was named for King Gustaf, and for his paternal grandfather.
