Queen Elisabeth of the Belgians "has been confined to her apartments for the last two weeks," as she recovers from influenza. Her physician has advised that she take "great care of herself" and rest "in view of the coming wedding ceremonies in Rome." Her condition is said "not to be alarming," according to the Associated Press.
On January 8, Elisabeth's daughter, Princess Marie-José, will marry Crown Prince Umberto of Italy.
In the meantime, Crown Prince Leopold and Crown Princess Astrid have returned to Ostend to rejoin their infant daughter, Josephine Charlotte.
