Princess Mops Floors

Princess Alexandra Viktoria of Schleswig-Holstein, who was once married to Kaiser Wilhelm II's son, August Wilhelm, says that "scrubbing floors as an avocation is infinitely preferable to sitting in the princely halls of Potsdam."
The princess is now married to Commander Ruemann, who served in the Imperial Navy. She was recently discovered cleaning floors when a prominent Berlin lawyer called upon her at her Munich home.

"No doubt you are surprised to see me doing housework," she said to the lawyer, "but, believe me, I am a thousand times happier managing my own home and supporting myself than I ever was when breathing the muggy air of the Potsdam court."

Alexandra Viktoria "depends on her artistic skill for her livelihood," as her husband, a commoner, has only his officer's pension. Her skill as a painter of landscapes and portraits is "considered unusual by critics." Her home is a "snug, comfortable apartment," and she does her own sewing and housework.

Princess Alexandra Viktoria and Prince August Wilhelm were divorced in 1920. They have one son, Prince Alexander Ferdinand, who lives with his father, as German tradition is for custody of children to be awarded to the fathers.
