Infanta Maria del Pilar baptised
In Cannes today (August 8, 1936), Infanta Maria del Pilar, the first born child of the Prince and Princess of the Asturias, was baptised. The Roman Catholic ceremony took place at the church of Notre Dame des Pins. Although King Alfonso XIII was unable to attend his granddaughter's baptism, Queen Ena was present, as was the baby's great-grandmother, the Countess of Caserta. Pilar was named for the Virgin del Pilar at Saragosse.
