A Mecklenburg mélange

A few images of from my postcard collection

I believe this card shows the third wife of Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II of Mecklenburg.  Marie was born HSH Princess Marie of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt (1850-1922). One of her sons, Prince Heinrich married Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands.

Grand Duchess Anastasia Mikhailovna of Russia married Grand Duke Friedrich Franz III of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.  They had three children: Friederich Franz IV, Alexandrine (wife of King Christian X of Denmark) and Cecilie,  Crown Princess of Prussia.

Two sisters, Marie Louise and Alexandra of Cumberland (Hanover).  Marie is with her 2 children, Berthold and Marie Alexandra, and Alexandra is with her husband, the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and their first son, Friedrich Franz.

This image is from 1904 of Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich V of Mecklenburg-Strelitz with his wife Elisabeth, and three of their four children: Hereditary Grand Duke Adolf Friedrich, Duke Karl Borwin and Duchess Marie.

The Prince of Castell-Castell's 90th birthday celebration

This lovely card arrived earlier this week.   H Ill H Albrecht, Prince of Castell-Castell celebrated his 90th birthday on August 13, 2015.   He has been married since 1951 to HSH Princess Marie Louise of Waldeck und Pyrmont.

The couple have six  (of eight) surviving children: Philippa (Princess Michael zu Salm-Salm); Johanna (Princess Johannes von Lobkowicz); Alexander, Georg, Ferdinand and Stephanie (Countess Georg von Khevenhüller-Metsch).

The eldest son, Hereditary Count Maximilian died at the age of 21 in December 1974.   A decade earlier, the couple's third daughter, Christina, was only two years old when she died.

The youngest son, Count Ferdinand, is the Hereditary Graf.  He is married to Countess Marie Gabrielle von Degenfeld-Schönburg,  They have five children, two sons and three daughters.

The first card is from the Prince and Princess of Lippe, and the card shows their five children.

The second card is from Prince Stephan's mother, Traute, whose husband, Prince Armin of Lippe died earlier this year.

The Grand Duke Friedrich Wilhelm of Mecklenburg-Strelitz

HRH Grand Duke Friedrich Wilhelm of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1819-1904) married his first cousin, HRH Princess Augusta of Cambridge.  Oh, to find a postcard of Augusta!!!

Grand Duchess Alexandra of Mecklenburg-Schwerin

HRH Princess Alexandra of Cumberland (Hanover) (1882-1963) was the second daiughter of the TRH Duke and Duchess of Cumberland  (Prince Ernst August of Hanover and Princess Thyra of Denmark).  She was named for her aunt, Alexandra, the Princess of Wales.

In 1904, she married  HRH Grand Duke Friedrich Franz IV of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

In this postcard (a new addition to my collection)  Alexandra is wearing a Mecklenburger national dress.

The first image was taken in 1899, shortly after the birth of Grand Duchess Maria Nicolaeivna.   This photo could have been taken after the Grand Duchess's baptism.

The second shows Princess Beatrice of Edinburgh (Saxe-Coburg and Gotha) and her sister, Victoria Melita.

Burger King Willem-Alexander

I know some people will not like this photo.  It was sent to me .. and I asked if I could use it on Royal Musings.  I was given permission to use the photo.

As I am in the US, and not in the Netherlands, I am not subject to the Dutch media code.

This photo was taken recently at a McDonalds in Leiden with King Willem-Alexander having a bite to eat with, perhaps, his eldest daughter, Amalia, the Princess of Orange.

UPDATE:  Amalia, Alexia and Ariane were with their father.

Romanian Prime Minister, dinner at Elisabeta Palace

Yesterday evening, December 16, at Elisabeta Palace, Their Royal Highnesses Crown Princess Margareta and Prince Radu received His Excellency Prime Minister Dacian Cioloș and Madame Cioloș at dinner.

On behalf of His Majesty King Michael I, The Crown Princess hosted the first meeting between the Royal Family and the head of the newly appointed Government of Romania.

Queen Margherita ill

December 16, 1925

Dowager Queen Margherita of Italy, the mother of King Vittorio Emanuele, is suffering from pleurisy "at the base of the right lung," reports the Associated Press.

The condition of the 74-year-old queen is said to be "causing some anxiety."

Her brother, the Duke of Genoa,  responded to a hasty summons to Margherita's bedside and is now with her.  His arrival has given credence to the concern for the dowager queen's health.

The King and Queen remain in Rome and are being "advised frequently" on the dowager queen's progress.   Crown Prince Umberto today "ordered services"  at the church in Turin for the "recovery of his grandmother."

An update on Paul Lambrino

Paul Lambrino (self-styled Prince Paul of Romania) is now under house arrest.

In the 1950s, his father, Mircea Lambrino, won court cases in France and Portugal that established his position as a legitimate heir of former King Carol II for inheritance purposes in these two countries.

Mircea became a co-heir with his half (and legitimate) brother, King Michael, for property in these two countries.  The court rulings made no reference to titles as the courts in France and Portugal would not have the legal right to establish titles for the former Romanian monarchy.  However, this did not stop Mircea from adopting the use of the title HRH Prince Carol of Romania, although he was not entitled to the title.

Romanian courts have also upheld Paul Lambrino's right as an heir to private properties, but they do not have the jurisdiction to rule on whether someone is royal.

It suffices to say that Lambrino is in a lot of trouble regarding his alleged restitution claims for properties that never belonged to Carol II.

Prince Jean, second son of the Count of Paris and his first wife, Duchess Marie Therese of Württemberg.  married Philomena de Tornos y Steinhart in 2009.  They are the parents of Prince Gaston (2009), Princess Antoinette (2012) and Princess Louise Marguerite (2014)
