Princess Robert de Brogile was granted a divorce today in Paris on the grounds of her husband's desertion. The court granted her custody of the couple's only child, and $60.00 a month in alimony. Prince Robert, according to the Associated Press report, may see the child at "stated intervals."
The Princess is the former Estelle Alexander of San Francisco. She was first married to Sidney Veit, a wealthy New York merchant" They were divorced several years ago. Miss Alexander "subsequently appeared on the vaudeville stage," where she caught the attention f Prince Robert. They were married in Chicago in 1906, although the marriage did not meet with Prince Robert's family's approval. The couple remained together until "a year or more ago," when "rumors of domestic accord were followed by a separation. In order to support her child, the princess "has been appearing in the music halls of Paris."

King Edward VII returns from France

King Edward VII returned to London today from France. He "received a great, popular welcome" when he arrived in London. Although the train station was closed to the public, "the approach was thronged by large crowds." There were flags flying every where, and the Mall leading to Buckingham Palace was "thickly lined with people."
The Prince of Wales, Prince Christian, the Duke of Cambridge, Prince Charles of Denmark, Premier Balfour and Lord Roberts greeted the king at the train station, according to the New York Times. The king had left Cherbourg this morning aboard the Victoria & Albert, which was escorted by a British squadron. Cheering crowds awaited the king as the royal yacht arrived at Portsmouth, where His Majesty boarded a train for London. This evening, the King and Queen Alexandra attended a performance of "Das Rheingold" at Covent Garden, where they "were accorded a most hearty welcome." They were accompanied by the Prince and Princess of Wales and Prince and Princess Charles of Denmark.
A summer visit to Czar Nicholas II has not been confirmed, but it is being reported that King Edward VII will visit Berlin in the fall, where he will meet his nephew, Kaiser Wilhelm II.

Margaret snapped bathing, bars photographers

Newspapers are reporting today that Briton's Princess Margaret, 19, was photographed in a strapless bathing suit. This has led to British officials "to hurl a charge of 'unbecoming conduct' at an Italian photographer.
According to the British, an Italian photographer posed as a fisherman and snapped the Princess as she was bathing in the Mediterranean during a visit to Capri. The princess and her party left for Sorrento today with only two reporters from Reuters and the Associated Press in tow. No photographers were permitted.

Hohenberg Prince reported dead in concentration camp

It was reported today in Vienna that Prince Ernst of Hohenberg, 32, the younger son of the late Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who was assassinated at Sarajevo in 1914, has died in a concentration camp near Weimar.
Prince Ernst got into trouble with Nazis in Vienna in January 1938 when he "smashed with an umbrella an illuminated swastika on the building of the German National Railway." The Prince was arrested and taken to a police station, where he showed his papers. He then went to the German legation to offer his apologies to the then German ambassador to Austria, Fritz von Papen. Three months later, Austria was absorbed into the German empire, and Prince Ernst was arrested and sent to a German concentration camp.
The New York Times notes that the reports are unconfirmed.
Princess Louis of Bourbon seeks alimony

Princess Louis of Bourbon's suit for alimony against her husband "possesses a certain amount of interest to Americans," writes the Marquise de Fontenoy. Although born in Havana,the former Amelia Bellow-Hamel was raised and educated in the United States and for "intents and purposes," is an all-American girl.
Prince Louis, the Count of Aquila, and Amelia were married in New York City in 1869. The couple have two children, Maria Gennara, who is married to an Englishman, William Freeman, and Luigi, who is married to Enrica Weiss.
The princess' alimony suit is not before a court in Paris, and the proceedings will show that she was "compelled by the conduct of her husband to obtain from him a judicial separation in the year 1891." The prince had been ordered to pay his estranged wife $1,200 a year, but has not complied with the court order. His mother, Princess Januaria, sister of Dom Pedro, the last emperor of Brazil, "furnished the alimony in his stead," until her death six years ago. Finally, in 1904, after exhausting all over possibilities, Princess Louis, "finding herself in a state of complete destitution," filed an appeal with the French courts. The original order was upheld, and her husband made intermittent payments. This was not sufficient, according to the court order, and the princess has now "secured a judgment, by which the extensive property left by the prince's mother has been attached for a sum sufficient to furnish the capital of the alimony." A trust has been established for elderly princess, who will receive the income for the trust for as long as she lives.
Some claim that the marriage between Amelia Hamel and Prince Louis is morganatic, and that she should be be known as the Countess of Roccagugliema, but "code of the state of New York where the marriage was contracted nor that of Italy, to the former reigning family of which Prince Louis belonged, nor yet that of France makes any provision for morganatic marriages." A marriage "contracted in accordance with the laws is a fully-fledged marriage," and, the former Amelia Hamel is the "fully-fledged wife of Prince Louis.

According to a report in the New York Times, Princess Louise, the former Crown Princess of Saxony, has given birth to a daughter at Lindau, Bavaria. It is understood that a Saxony court official and several doctors and nurses were present for birth. The court official has received "royal orders" to take the infant back to Dresden in three weeks.

Princess Eugenie was mugged in Cambodia, according to a report in the Daily Telegraph. Her personal protection officer was able to deflect that attack.

It's a boy
11:55 p.m. (May 3) Princess Marie of Denmark has given birth to a son early Monday morning in Copenhagen.

Princess Marie of Denmark is in labor, according to the Danish Royal House's press chief. The Princess, who is the wife of Prince Joachim, will give birth to her first child at Copenhagen's Rigshospitalet. Absolutely too funny. I am the one who has done my homework. The evidence is overwhelming, actually. Perhaps, "lady Grania" should pick up a copy of Burkes' Irish Family Records, where she will see the issue for Hamilton's O'Malley's second marriage.
This "Lady" would be laughed right out of court because everyone knows that Lady Iris and Hamilton never had any children, and that they were separated before 1944, and divorced in 1946. Moreover, if "Lady Grania" had done HER HOMEWORK, she would have known Lady Iris' title was a a courtesy title, as she was the daughter of a marquess. It does not pass to children - and any children would have been Mr or Miss O'Malley.
Should "Lady Grania" try to enter the US using a fake name, she should be aware that ICE does not take lightly to the use of a fraudulent name, which could mean she would become a guest of the state!
How difficult is it for this "Lady" to understand that Iris (who I knew) had only one child, by her second marriage. She even stated in an interview that she had no children by her first marriage.

Timothy Knatchbull writes book about his grandfather's assassination

The Hon. Timothy Knatchbull was 14-years-old when an IRA bomb exploded on a boat that he was on with his grandfather, Earl Mountbatten of Burma and other members of his family. His grandfather was killed instantly, as were Timothy's twin brother, Nicholas, and Paul Maxwell, 15, who was working as a member of the crew. The Dowager Baroness Brabourne died the next day from her injuries. Timothy survived, as did his parents, Lord and Lady Brabourne, although all sustained serious injuries.
From a Clear Day will be published in August by the British publisher, Hutchinson.

The Dutch Royal Family's newest member has a name: Juliana Louise Emma Marie Wilhelmina. Princess Juliana was born yesterday. She is the first child of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands.
The Queen's condition is "thoroughly satisfactory." The infant princess, according to the New York Times, is doing "handsomely."

Queen's Day is celebrated on April 30, which is the birthday of the late Queen Juliana, but the day actually honors the present sovereign. Queen Beatrix was born in January, and a cold, dreary January day is not a good day for a national holiday.
Yesterday, a Dutchman, Karst Tates got into his car, drove at a break-necking speed and tried to ram into the bus that included members of the Dutch Royal Family. Queen Beatrix was one of the royals on the bus.
Tates was not able to complete his mission because his car hit a monument, and not the royal bus. It was said that he was despondent over recent economic changes in his life, including the loss of a job and his home. But losing your job is not a reason to go and try to kill someone. Tates lived in the Netherlands, which has social safety net. He would have been able to find a place to live, eat, and get paid by the State while he looked for a new job. Instead of seeking help, he chose to get angry, and, in doing so, he mowed down innocent. Some are injured and six died. All innocent victims. Tates died today from his injuries.
