The family of Juan Gómez-Acebo y Borbón has made the difficult decision to move his funeral and burial from August 15 until September.
This decision was based on logistics, reports Lecturas, a weekly Spanish magazine. Spanish journalist Aurelio Manzano was the first to report the family's decision. He wrote on his social media account: “Finally, both the funeral and burial of Juan Gómez Acebo will take place in September. So that both family and friends can attend."
This change will allow Juan's family and friends to attend the funeral mass.
Juan's only son, 11-year-old Nicolas. lives in the United States, as does Juan's brother, Bruno, who also lives in Miami.
King Felipe VI would have declined the invitation if the funeral had been held this Thursday as he will be in the Dominican Republic for the inauguration of Luis Abinader as president.
The only member of the Royal Family .in Mallorca is Queen Sofia, who visited with Doña Simoneta and other family members. Sofia's two daughters, Infanta Elena and Infanta Cristina usually join their mother at Marivent Palace after the departure of King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. Neither Infanta nor their children have been seen in Mallorca this summer. Elena and Cristina may be in Abu Dhabi with their father.
After returning from Paris, Queen Sofia went to the funeral home offering comfort and support to Juan's three surviving siblings, Doña Simoneta, Don Beltran, and Don Bruno.
King Felipe VI and his sisters have a close relationship with the Gómez-Acebo family, more like siblings than first cousins.
Lecturas notes it will be impossible to organize everything in two days.
¿Y lo van a tener sin enterrar hasta septiembre? Mucho tiempo me parece .
