Paul Lambrino (aka Paul al Romanei) has been on the lam since December 17, 2020, when the Brasov Court of Appeals issued a warrant for his arrest.  He had been sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in prison for the "purchase of influence and complicity in the abuse of office against public interests in the 'Ferma Baneasa' case," reports Wall Street, a Romanian financial newspaper.

Romania's Minister of Internal Affairs, Lucian Bode, has confirmed that Lambrino has been detained in Paris.  He told the press: "As a result of the international cooperation between the Romanian police and the French authorities, Paul Philippe al Romanei was found in Paris.  Procedural activities are still being carried out to hand him over to our country."

He was arrested while out walking on a street in Paris.  Lambrino confirmed his identification by producing a British passport.  Lambrino was under international surveillance when he was apprehended.

The photo in this link shows Lambrino, 73, checking his phone while seated in a nearly empty cafe.

He slipped out of Romania before officials arrived at his Bucharest home, where they planned to arrest him and take him to jail.   His wife, Lia, told officials that she believed he was in Portugal.

Lambrino is the grandson of the late King Carol II of Romania.  His father, Carol Lambrino was born after the annulment of Carol's marriage to Romanian commoner Zizi Lambrino.  Carol and his male descendants do not have dynastic rights to the throne.

King Carol II's second wife was Princess Helen of Greece and Denmark.  They had one son, Michael who was the last king of Romania.  Michael's eldest daughter, Margarita is the Custodian of the Crown.

In July 2021, a Romanian bank repossessed Lamabrino's home, forcing his wife and young son, Carol Ferdinand, to move to a hotel in northern Bucharest.
