Dear Marlene, do you know and could comment on in public why there are no representatives from the Duke’s sister Sophie? Sophie and Philip were often seen together, visited each other, were close in age and shared the longest lifetime together: So, I presume the Duke would have met and bond with her children as well? Thanks
Interesting none of Princess Sophie’s descendants attended unless the Prince of Hesse is doing so..
Two granddaughters live in the UK, but I do not believe they ever had any real contact with Philip or his family.
I wondered who that was sitting next to Lady Sarah. Glad you mentioned Viscount Linley being present, I had only seen Lady Margarita mentioned as attending. It is him sitting next to his aunt, that makes sense. Daily Mail listed Countess of Burma under "foreign royalty", they are not so good at fact checking. I always thought Prince Philip was closest to his sister Theodora - he lived with her before the Nazi tightened their control.
Nice gesture by Queen Letizia and Princess Beatrix to wear green. Too bad King & Queen of Norway weren't able to come, Covid, the gift that just keeps taking. I think that is the Grand Duchess of Luxembourg in the photo with Greek royals.
Wow, the most enjoying report recognizing most royal guests, so it was a joy to read. Prince Nikola of Yugoslavia, son of Princess Margarita of Baden was also present. He was wearing glasses and went out of the church few rows before his sister, Princess Katarina of Yugoslavia.
Donatus, Prince of Hesse is the elder son of Moritz who was adoptive heir or testamentary heir of Prince Ludwig of Hesse-Darmstadt (brother-in-law of Caecilia). He is not however descended from any of the Duke's four sisters. Princess Sophie married a great-uncle of Donatus, and then his first cousin once removed, a prince of Hanover.
There are many faces following the Hereditary Prince and Princess of Baden, the Prince and Princess of Hohenlohe-Langenburg, and the Prince/Landgrave Donatus and Princess Floria of Hesse. I can't put names and faces together, however. Some are Bernhard's brothers and cousin. Others are the Prince of Hohenlohe-Langenburg's sisters, according to reports.
Were any of the Hanovers present?
Great to see the Baden's there! Sad not to see Margrave/Prince Max and Princess Valerie. Did notice Prince Leopold with a lady friend sitting next to Michael, has he gotten married or engaged? I Think its the same lady he has taken to a few German weddings in the last few years. Great to also see Michael and Christina too.
Of the missing ones, I noticed that Lady Nicholas didn't attend Lady Gabriella's wedding either. We haven't heard from that side of the family for some time.
Where is Princess Alexandra? It is good to hear that her absence is not due to health.
Princess Alexandra was out of the country
Prince Michael and Princess Christina of Baden. Yes, they are married.
We are still trying to find out if any of Sophie's family were present the Landgrave of Hesse represented Sophie's line (his grandfather was the older brother of her first husband.
I expected to see Queen Sophia there but she was not. I thought she was closed to Prince Philip's side of family. Her mother is sister-in-law of Prince Philip's sister Sophie.
Thank you for your thorough list of attendees. Do you know who the lady was who was with the Duke of Kent?
At big family events like this is there a "designated survivor" who deliberately does not attend? I suppose in this case it might have been Prince Louis of Cambridge - but he was probably considered too young for such a service.
robbie that would be the countess of St Andrews
JACC no
Thank you Marlene
PerhapsP the death of Prince Karl of Hesse a few days before explains the non attendance of any of Princess Sophie's family
Jean Paul Cyr, son of Princess Frederika was sitting with Philip's family, but yes, karl's death prevented his family from attending
