Unfortunately, unrequited love for this lovesick redwing blackbird at Huntley Meadows in Fairfax County, Virginia. All photos by me.
(A little diversion to make us smile)

Love, Love, Love |
I am so nervous ...She is so pretty ... I want to get to know her |
I see her, the prettiest here at Huntley Meadows |
I am stud bird |
Ready to make my move |
Wiggling, showing off the moves. does she notice? |
Hi |
Hi again, you are very pretty |
What have I said to offend you? I like you. I want to get to know you better |
This is not looking good |
Want to grab a bite? |
What can I do, what can I say to make her like me? |
My heart is breaking |
I want to know her better |
Go away. I already have a boyfriend .. he has a much bigger nest. |
I am too good for you |
Be gone! |
So sad. My heart is breaking |
Flies into to grasses -- and starts hissing/swearing (really, you could hear the bird) |
I will never come out again. So sad |
Takes a deep breath ... I will try again |
She's gone. Noooooo |
What is on Birdflix tonight? |
This is so sweet! Thank you for posting. I found you via a link from the Royal Hats blog. Huntley Meadows is such a lovely place.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! Loved the story too. I live just a few miles away in Occoquan and have never seen a bird like this. Maybe I need to pay more attention!
ReplyDeleteClaire Red wing blackbirds are common. Have you been to the Occoquan wildlife preserve?
ReplyDeleteI have not. I have been meaning to so I just need to prioritize it!
ReplyDeleteI live in Springfield - be sure to go to Mason Neck as well -
ReplyDeleteNice.
