Prince Heinrich of Prussia (1862-1929)



HRH Prince Albert Wilhelm Heinrich of Prussia was born on August 14, 1862, at Berlin, the third child of Friedrich III, German Emperor, and his British wife, Victoria, eldest daughter of Queen Victoria.

Heinrich was the only surviving brother of Kaiser Wilhelm II.

On May 24, 1888, at the Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin,  he married his first cousin, Princess Irene of Hesse and by Rhine, the third daughter of Grand Duke Ludwig IV of Hesse and By Rhine and his wife, Alice, second daughter of Queen Victoria.

They had three sons: Prince Waldemar (1889-1945), Prince Sigismund (1896-1978) and Prince Heinrich (1900-1904).  Prince Waldemar and Prince Heinrich were hemophiliacs.

Heinrich rose to the rank of Grand Admiral in the German Navy.  After the fall of the German monarchy,  the prince and his family retired to Hemmelmark, their estate in Schleswig-Holstein.  It was at Hemmelmark where Prince Heinrich died on April 20, 1929.  He was 66 years old.  The cause of death of throat cancer.

Some very close blood relations there. His Mother and her Mother were sisters. Soooooo close.

I think he bears a resemblance to his cousins, King George V and Tsar Nicholas.
