Prince of Asturias not engaged

The Captain General's Office in Barcelona today "denied rumors" of an engagement between the Prince of Asturias and Princess Maria Esperanza of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, according to the New York Times. The Princess' father, Prince Carlos of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, is the Military Governor of Barcelona.
Reports of an impending engagement between the heir to the Spanish throne and Princess Maria Esperanza have been "current for more than a year." The rumors were recently revived when the Prince of Asturias, recently recovered from illness, and his trip to Barcelona a few days ago.
