Marie of Leiningen has died

Princess Marie Amalie of Leiningen died today at the age of 65, reports the New York Times.  

The princess was born at Karlsruhe on November 20, 1834, the 7th child of Grand Duke Leopold of Baden, and his wife, Princess Sophie of Sweden.  On September 11, 1858, she married Ernst, the Prince of Leiningen, the nephew of Queen Victoria.
 
She is survived by her husband, the Prince of Leiningen,  her children,  Princess Alberta and Hereditary Prince Emich, three grandchildren, Princess Viktoria, and Prince Emich and Karl of Leiningen,  her sister, Alexandrine, Dowager Duchess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, her brothers, Grand Duke Friedrich and Prince Karl of Baden.


Queen Victoria was "devotedly attached" to Princess Marie, who often visited the Queen, and was "beloved by all who knew her."

The Princess died at Waldleiningen.
