Queen Emma of the Netherlands has sent a letter to Queen Victoria "definitely announcing her daughter's betrothal to Prince Wilhelm of Wied," reports the New York Times.
An official announcement of the betrothal will be "made shortly." The question of Prince Wilhelm's status at the Dutch court has not yet been decided, but it is understood that "Queen Victoria's precedent will be followed." which established her husband's precedence over her paternal uncles.
This problem won't happen in the Netherlands because Queen Wilhelmina does not have any paternal uncles who would try to claim precedence over her new husband.
