Princess Louise declared insane

January 5, 1902

Princess Louise, the "eccentric eldest daughter of King Leopold of Belgium," has been declared "hopelessly insane," according to a report in the New York Times.   The princess, divorced from  Prince Philipp of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, has been held "practically as a prisoner" at an asylum near Dresden for the last two years.

Her daughter, Princess Dorothea, is the wife of Duke Ernst Günther of Schleswig-Holstein, the brother of Empress of Germany.
