Congratulations for new regent

April 12, 1889

The former Duke of Nassau "has received a number of telegrams congratulating him upon his assumption of the Regency of Luxemburg," reports the New York Times.  The German Kaiser Wilhelm II, sends his congratulations, but deplored "the illness of the King of the Netherlands," and expressed the hope that Willem III will "resume his duties as sovereign.

Kaiser Wilhelm offered the "most neighborly feelings toward the Grand Duchy," and he is convinced that the Regency "will maintain cordial relations with Germany."

Duke Adolphe also received a telegram from the King of Saxony, which read: "Now you occupy the position that belongs to you.  A faithful friend cordially congratulates you for the present and for the future."   A telegram from Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph read: "Faithful friendship will always be reciprocated."
