Lady Brabourne spends the weekend with the Queen at Sandringham

This is not a surprise.  Lady Brabourne, whose husband, Norton bolted for warmer climes with Lady Nuttall, has the support of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh.

  1. Marlene,
Isn't it somewhat of a suprise. I know that Lady Brabourne is a close friend, but Norton is family. Bea

  2. Not at all. Penny is also family, and has been a member of the family since 1979.

  3. Yes but so were Diana, Fergie, and Mark Phillips and they were cut off after the relationships ended. Though I guess their must be sympathy for Lady Bradbourne from the royal family seeing that this couple has been dealt some very tough tragedys. Bea

  4. Different situations.
Penny and Norton were the ones who first warned Charles about Diana (before the wedding, Penny saw right through Diana. Diana tried to cut the Knatchbulls out of their lives, but it really didn't work. Charles may have taken up with a former love (and now his second wife), but Diana had her own affairs, and did rather public nasty things that the Queen did not like. Sarah - she was unfaithful and continues to embarrass herself. Mark Phillips cheated on Anne and fathered an illegitimate child. He has moved on with his life, remarried and has another legitimate child.
Not that long ago (last 2 years or so) Penny and Norton went to the theatre with the queen and philip. Penny is discrete, kind, and trustworthy and very much liked by the royals. She's the one trying to hold her head up high and fight for the estate (which has been closed for several years due to total rewiring - asbestos.) Many times, Alexandra comes too. I doubt Norton will be shunned - but the Queen is making it clear that Penny is very important.
