Friends of Archduke Otto of Austria reported to United Press and other media outlets that the Archduke, the de jure Austrian emperor, is engaged to marry Princess Regina of Saxe-Meiningen. Archduke Otto is the eldest son of the last Emperor of the Austro-Hungarian empire, Karl, who died in 1922. Otto's mother, Empress Zita, lives in the United States.
Otto met Regina in the summer of 1950 while he was on vacation at Lake Starnberg in Bavaria. Regina and her mother, Princess Klara, fled their home in the Russian zone after the end of the Second World War. Regina's father died in a Russian POW camp in 1946.
The date and the place of the wedding has not been announced, but it is expected to take place later this year in Bavaria or Sigmaringen, where the Duke plans to live.
