Princess Clementine, the youngest daughter of King Leopold II of the Belgians, "seems to have resigned herself to remain a spinster, and has mapped out her life accordingly."
According to an exclusive dispatch in the Los Angeles Times, the princess "leads a retired, lonely existence, seeking consolation in the company of animal pets -- dogs and parrots more especially."
Clementine's favorite dog is the Havana Griffon. She has more than twenty of them, "all comfortably installed in a wing of Laeken palace. She is usually seen with at least two of the dogs, and as soon as anyone enters her rooms, the "dogs fly at the person, barking furiously."
King Leopold has been "frequently greeted" in this way when he visits his daughter's salon. His protests, however, remain unheeded. Princess Clementine will not "restrain the ardor of her beloved griffons," even for her father, the King.
