Crown Prince Alexander with his son and grandchildren

HRH  Hereditary Prince Philip of Serbia

Earlier this week, HRH Crown Prince Alexander spent time with his son, Prince Philip, and his family in their Belgrade home.   This was the first time the Crown Prince met his granddaughter, Princess Marija, born on November 5th.    Marija's older brother, Prince Stefan, was born on February 25, 2018.

The Hereditary Prince noted: "Three generations, in a direct hereditary line united in one place for the first time."  He added that this "has never happened in the history of Karađorđević dynasty."

In April 2022. Philip's older brother, Prince Peter, renounced his hereditary rights in favor of Prince Philip.

King Peter I's father, Alexander, Prince of Serbia, died in 1885, two years after Peter's marriage to Princess Zorka of Montenegro.  Peter's first son, Crown Prince George was born in 1887.  In 1909, George renounced his rights after killing his valet.  King Peter I's second son, Alexander became the Crown Prince and succeeded his father in 1921.  Alexander married Princess Marie of Romania.  They were the parents of three sons: King Peter II, Prince Tomislav, and Prince Andrej.

King Alexander was assassinated on October 4, 1934, in Marseilles.   His eldest son, Peter, was nine years old when he became king.   In 1944 King Peter II married Princess Alexandra of Greece.  Their only son, Crown Prince Alexander, was born in London in July 1944.

King Peter II died in Denver, Colorado in 1970.  Two years later, Crown Prince Alexander married HRH Princess Maria Da Gloria of Orleans-Braganca.  The couple had three sons, Peter, and the twins, Philip and Alexander, before divorcing in 1985.
