There was a bit of drama earlier today at the Theatinerkirche in Munich where Princess Sophie-Alexandra suffered a "brief attack of weakness" after she said yes.
According to the German newspaper Bild, "the bride fell backward, and the groom caught her. The groomsmen rushed over. We are glad she felt well again straight away.
Prince Leopold "Poldi," of Bavaria, 79, offers the bride glucose, cola, actually. Sophie takes a sip of the sugary soda and is soon back on her feet.
The 33-year-old bride and her new husband were beaming when they left the church.
Sophie and her father arrived at the church in a vintage 1955 Pullman 505
Bavarian Prime Minster Markus Söder commented about Prince Ludwig: "He looks like King Ludwig I, but he won't be able to spend that much money. The Wittelsbachers have always been smart and supple. We gave him a limited-edition Bavarian backpack with Bavarian specialties because he likes hiking in Kenya." He added: “First of all, you are happy when two people get married. The Wittelsbacher are very special for us Bavarians, they stand for tradition. They were a moderate royal family, they are associated with art and culture, so the Bavarians still like the Wittelsbach family.”
There were large crowds outside the church to watch the arrivals and departures of the bridal party, their families, and guests.
The groom's father. Prince Leopold was asked about the public's interest. He told Bild: "Our family ruled for years. Until 1918. Why not celebrate that? It's also about tradition. And that is important!”
Unfortunately, the Getty photos of the wedding do not have an embedding code for bloggers so I cannot use their photos.
