King Constantine II's body will be in repose at the Agios Eleftherios Chapel in the Athens Metropolitan Cathedral from 6:00 am to 10:00 January 16.
The chapel will be open for those who wish to pay their respects to the late king.
The funeral service is scheduled to take place at noon at Athens Metropolitan Cathedral. This will be followed by a private burial at the Tatoi ceremony, where other members of the royal family are buried.

Dear Marlene,
ReplyDeleteWith the death of his father, RIP, by what title is Crown Prince Pavlos wishing to be addressed hence forward? Does he still want to be known as the crown prince, or has he announced his intention to be known as king, presumably Pavlos II?
Warmest Regards!
He has not made any announcement but is unlike to change anything as there is no monarchy - and his father and the monarchy were not popular
ReplyDeleteHello Marlene,
ReplyDeleteDo you expect any member of the British royal family to attend? I know they tend to send representatives to fewer continental royal gatherings, but given the ex-King's long residence in London, apparent closeness to the family (he is Prince William's godfather, I believe?), as well as the older Greek connection via the late Duke of Edinburgh, it seems some representation would be in order. Thanks!
Buckingham Palace confirmed to several reporters yesterday that the Princess Royal and her husband will be attending the funeral. No one else. The Foreign office (govt) decides the level of attendance for the RF. This is not a state funeral. There is also the burden of extra security that would be placed on the host nation for the British royals (the Greek government wants little to do with this funeral. It is a private funeral.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly,Liechtenstein royal family did not attend the funeral. There has been no official announcement for this absense!
