Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg was married on May 18 to Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille.   This is the second marriage for Alexandra, elder daughter of Princess Benedikte of Denmark and the late Richard, Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg.  Her first marriage to Count Jefferson von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth ended in divorce after nearly 20 years of marriage.

This is the third marriage for Count Michael, 54.  His first two marriages ended in divorce.

The wedding took place at Sct. Jørgens Kirke at Svendborg Sund.  Only 33 guests attended the ceremony, including the bride's mother, her daughter, Countess Ingrid, her sister, Princess Nathalie, and her longtime friend, Princess Martha Louise of Norway and her new partner, Durek Verrett.

Count Michael, 54, and 48-year-old Princess Alexandra have known each for most of their lives.   His mother, Merete von Lüttichau (nee Ahlefeldt-Laurvig)  is  Princess Benedikte's oldest friend.   The princess, a younger sister of Queen Margrethe II, is Michael's godmother.

[The late Queen Ingrid was the godmother to Prince Richard, who married Princess Benedikte in 1968.]

Michael and his sister, Susanne, are now married to descendants of Christian IX of Denmark.  In 1993,  Countess Suzanne married Erik Vind, a grandson of Prince Erik of Denmark, Count of Rosenborg, and Lois Frances Booth.   Erik Vind is the son of Erik's first child, Countess Alexandra of Rosenborg.

The newlyweds will reside at Egeskov Castle, which is Count Michael's ancestral home.

The castle is open to the public.

  1. Je crois que le comte est veuf et non divorcé de sa première épouse.

  2. Alain. I thinking you are asking when they got a divorce ... that has never been announced

  3. M. Giraud said that he thinks the earl is a widower from his first wife and divorced from the second one

  4. Interestingly Princess Alexandra married Count Michael exactly 2 years later to the date she announced her divorce from Count Jefferson.

  6. I wonder why the Princess didn’t wore the Kehvide of Egypt tiara as she is Queen Ingrid of Denmark grand granddaughter
as she did in her first wedding?
