A royal wedding: Lady Gabriella Windsor and Tom Kingston

Lady Gabriella Windsor and Tom Kingston were married today at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the Royal Family.

The 38-year-old bride is the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.  Prince Michael is the first cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.  He is the son of the late Prince George, Duke of Kent, who was killed in action only six weeks after Prince Michael's birth in 1942. and Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark.

Princess Michael was born Baroness Marie-Christine von Reibnitz, the daughter of Baron Günther von Reibnitz, a member of the Silesian nobility, and Hungarian Countess Maria Szapáry de Szapár, Muraszombat et Széchy-Sziget.

The bride wore a bespoke Luisa Beccaria wedding gown, made from "fine layers of tulle and organza with just a few of these in blush pink to give the subtlest sense of colour."   Her tiara, the City of London Fringe,  was a loan from her parents,   Ella's grandmother, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, received the tiara as wedding gift from the City of London, on the occasion of her marriage to  Prince George, Duke of Kent, the second youngest son of King George V, in November 1934.

Contrary to reports in the Telegraph and other media outlet,  this is not the same tiara that Marina wore on her wedding day.  Princess Marina wore the Vladimir Fringe tiara, which was a loan, from her mother, Grand Duchess Helen of Russia. After the wedding, Marina returned the tiara to her mother. The Vladimir Fringe tiara was inherited by Marina's niece, Countess Helene, the daughter of Princess Elisabeth and Carl Theodor, Count of Toerring-Jettenbach.

The late Duchess of Kent and Prince Philip were first cousins.

I must admit I was surprised by the number of members of the British royal family who attended the wedding.  It is not a surprise that the Queen attended as the wedding took place at St. George's Chapel.  She did not attend the wedding of Prince and Prince Michael's son, Lord Frederick Windsor, who married Sophie Winkleman at the chapel at Hampton Court Palace in 2009.

Other members of the Royal Family who attended the wedding included the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of Sussex, the Duke of York, who was accompanied by his former wife, Sarah, Duchess of York, their elder daughter, Princess Beatrice and her boyfriend, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, the Earl of Wessex, the Princess Royal and her husband Vice Admiral Timothy Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester with their daughters, Lady Davina Windsor and Lady Rose Gilman and her husband, George Gilman and their daughter-in-law, the Countess of Ulster, Princess Alexandra (the bride's aunt), and her son, James Ogilvy, his wife, Julia, and their daughter, Flora, Lady Helen and Tim Taylor and three of their children (Columbus did not attend),  the Earl and Countess  of St. Andrews and their three children, Lord Downpatrick, Lady Marina-Charlotte  and Lady Amelia Windsor,  Zenouska Mowatt (daughter of the bride's first cousin (and godmother),  Lord and Lady Nicholas Windsor and their eldest son, Master Albert Windsor and  Lady Sarah and Daniel Chatto.

The foreign guests included King Constantine II and Queen Anne Marie of the Hellenes, Prince Philipp and Princess Isabelle of Liechtenstein, Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia (whose late father, Prince Alexander, was the eldest child of Princess Olga of Greece and Denmark and Prince Paul of Yugoslavia),  Crown Princess Miriam of Bulgaria, the widow of the late Crown Prince Kardam, the Prince and Princess of Windisch-Graetz, Prince João Philippe of Orleans and Braganza and his wife Yasmine  Marques Souza de Paranaguá and Princess Maria da Gloria of Orleans-Braganza and her husband Don Ignacio Medina y Fernández de Córdoba, Duke de Segorbe.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex, the Countess of Wessex, the Duke and Duchess of Kent (Bride's uncle) and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank did not attend.

The Countess of Wessex and the Duke of Kent had previously scheduled engagements  The Duke of Kent is in Greece.  Princess Eugenie and her husband were said to be "on holiday."

The Duke of Cambridge is attending the FA Cup game between Manchester City and Watford at Wembley stadium.  He is the president of the Football Association.

The bridesmaids were Maud and Isabella Windsor (the daughters of Lord and Lady Frederick Windsor), Leonora Weisman, Aurelia del Drago, Emily Connolly and Eliza Goldsmith.  The pageboys were Frederick Murray, Rafferty Murray, Karim Khawaja.    The bride also had three special attendants:  Estella Taylor (the daughter of Lady Helen Windsor),  Jessie Connolly and Hannah Connolly.

  1. If Ella wasn't wearing the tiara that Princess Marina wore, do you know what tiara she wore
    today?

  2. It says it in the article ... Marina wore the Vladimir Fringe tiara that her mother loaned to her -- it now belongs to Her niece Archduchess Helene, nee Toerring-Jettenbach. Marina received a tiara, called the City of LOndon tiara because it was a gift from the City of LOndon. This is the tiara that Ella wore, as did Princess Alexandra when she married and Princess Michael at her wedding ball.

    Prince Michael inherited the tiara

  3. Beautiful! I love the photo of Maud and Ella--so sweet. Do you know who the little boy in suit and tie is--picture 20something, he is right next to Harry near Tim Taylor and, (I believe)one of the Gloucester daughters? Is he Lord Nicholas Windsor's son? She had an AMAZING royal turnout!
