Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, celebrate 70 years of marriage today. They were married on November 20, 1947 at Westminster Abbey. The images and two publications are from my collection.

Thank you for the interesting posts - I'm intrigued by the formal photographs. In those with just the bride and groom, the Princess Elizabeth has her bouquet as one would expect. In those of the entire bridal party, she does not. I wonder what the story is there - did it get too heavy? - did the photographer not notice that the bride didn't have her bouquet while all the bridesmaids had theirs? What a wonderful achievement, 70 years!! Thank you again
ReplyDeleteThank you for your postings,,,the photos of the Royal Wedding in 1947 are interesting. I am intrigued that, in the formal photos of the bride and groom together, Princess Elizabeth has, as one would expect, her bouquet in her hands - but in the photos of the entire bridal party, she does not. What's the story there, I wonder - did it get too heavy, so she put it down? Did the photographer not notice that the bride had not her bouquet but all the bridesmaids had theirs? Very intriguing. Thank you again...
ReplyDeletethe bouquet got lost so the individual photos were taken a day or so later when the bouquet was found
ReplyDeleteDidn't bouquet get lost (forgotten in the fridge) before the ceremony? Next day it was sent back to the Abbey to be laid at the grave of the fallen soldiers, no?
Deleteyes I always understood the bouquet was in the fridge before the ceremony and was found before she left for the abbey. as for the missing bouquet after the ceremony and before the balcony appearance god only knows! we have never been told that story. Unless they pulled a swifty and took the photos before the service. but that would take away from the romance of it all.
