Queen turns over 25 patronages to other members of Royal family

Buckingham Palace today announced today that Queen Elizabeth II will hand over 25 of her more than 600 patronages to other members of the Royal family, namely her children and grandchildren.

This is not unexpected.  The Queen is 90 years old, and is divesting of her patronages in order to allow others in her family to make their mark.  In other words, it would be awful to have to fill all 600 at once.   (The Prince of Wales will probably succeed to a large percentage of his mother's patronage portfolio.)

Here is a list of the 25 charities that will have new Patrons in 2017.  Some have already confirmed their new patrons.

Holocaust Day Memorial Trust    (HRH The Prince of Wales)

  1. I love the media attention this is getting around the world, highlighting the charitable work of the royal family. Great guesses! My predictions are a little different...
    - Battersea Dogs & Cats Home - Duchess of Cornwall
    - Royal School of Needlework - Duchess of Cornwall or Countess of Wessex (Duchess of Gloucester is president, but I highly doubt she'd take on an additional patronage)
    - Royal African Society - Duke of Cambridge
    - Action for Children - Duchess of Cambridge
    - Edinburgh International Festival - Earl of Wessex or Princess Royal
    - Sport and Recreation Alliance - Earl of Wessex or Duke of Cambridge (the earl is president)
    - British Cycling Federation - Countess of Wessex
    - British Science Association - Prince of Wales
    - Institution of Civil Engineers - Prince of Wales
    - Animal Health Trust - Princess Royal (president)
    - Save the Children UK - Princess Royal

Looking forward to seeing what happens next. I like your thought on one of the York princesses taking on the presidency of Save the Children UK if (when) the Princess Royal is named patron. It's a pretty high profile patronage, so it could be, perhaps, a stepping stone toward something bigger. Not sure what, but highest doubt it'd be full-time royal work.
