Queen Mary hopes to attend Edward's coronation
Queen Mary may break precedent by attending the Coronation of her eldest son, King Edward VIII, next May, reports the Associated Press.
The Queen is resolved to not "miss the glittering spectacle" of her son's "formal elevation to the throne."
This would be a "departure from custom" as Queen Alexandra, Edward's grandmother, did not attend the coronation of her son, King George V and Queen Mary, in 1911. She spent the day "quietly" at Sandringham House, attending a service with her sister, Empress Marie of Russia.
This situation is different as there is no queen consort. King Edward will be the first bachelor crowned since Charles II.
