"Prince" Paul of Romania arrested for alleged illegal land deals
"Prince Paul of Romania (Lambrino) was arrested today for in Brasov, Romania, on charges that involve 47 hectares (116 acres) of land in the Snagov area of Bucharest. Paul, the son of King Michael's older half brother, Mircea Lambrino, had acquired the land some years ago using documents that have since proved to be invalid. The land in question never belonged to the Romanian royal family. He sold parcels of the land to politicians and businessmen.

The DNA (the anti-corruption office) released a statement that Lambrino is being investigated for offenses of buying influence, money laundering, and other charges.
After arriving in Brasov, Lambrino was taken away in handcuffs and questioned by prosecutors for six hours.
He will be detained for 24 hours.
An investigation into Lambrino's alleged shady deals began in 2010, but the investigation was blocked by the then Romanian President Traian Basescu, a good friend of Lambrino (and godfather to his son, Carol Ferdinand). Lambrino's relationship with Basecu has had serious repercussions for King Michael and his family.

In September, Lambrino's lawyer said his client will pay $7.28 million to Marco Houston, publisher of Royalty Magazine. The Romanian courts upheld a British court decision against Lambrino in a libel lawsuit.
