Grand Duke George's condition is hopeless

December 3, 1895

The Dowager Empress of Russia is now on her way to Abbas Truman in the Caucasus to be with her second son, Grand Duke George, the heir to the Russian throne.  According to a dispatch to the New York Times,  the Grand Duke has an "affection of the brain, " and his condition is said to be hopeless.

The 24-year-old Grand Duke became heir to the throne when his older brother, Nicholas, succeeded their father, Alexander III, in November 1894.
