Princess Marie of Romania will be returning to live Bucharest later this month.  She has been living in the United States for several decades, most recently in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

She will undertake official and ceremonial duties on behalf of her father, King Michael.

In December 1989, after hearing about the Romanian Revolution,  she received a phone call from one of her sisters, who told her Romania was free.  Marie was filled with fear and exhilaration. "The first thing that came to mind was -- this is every selfish, but I'll be honest -- I'm going to have to give up everything up, my friends, my life, everything, and go in live in Romania.  That's the first thing, and I was a scared to death."

Reporter Andrew Nelson asked her what was the second? "Wow!  Now I am a princess of something."

Nearly twenty-five years to the day (January 18, 1990) when Crown Princess Margarita and Princess Sophie arrived in Romania for the first time to pay tribute to those who died in the revolt against Nicolae Ceauscescu
