Marlene A. Eilers-Koenig Collection
The Duke and Duchess of Guise, Queen Amelie of Portugal and the Count and Countess of Paris. I expect this postcard was published at the time of the engagement of the Count of Paris in 1930.
Prince Jean, Duke of Orleans (1874-1940) was married to his first cousin, Princess Isabelle of Orleans (1878-1961). They were the parents of three daughters, Isabelle, Francoise, Anne and Henri, Count of Paris. He married Princess Isabelle of Orleans-Braganza at Palermo on April 8, 1931.
Queen Amelie of Portugal (1865-1951) was the widow of the assassinated King Carlos of Portugal. She was also the elder sister of the Duchess of Guise.

Marlene, just wanted to make sure you knew about the royal documentary on the BBC last night. i know you usually do but i didn't know about this one until it was on the BBC website. you also use a tunnel so should be able to see it.
ReplyDeleteit's called "Royal Cousins at War." last night was the first of two hour-long episodes. i've seen a one-episode documentary on this before, but always excited to see the BBC focus on this type of thing!
also, i've finally got enough money to buy a copy of your QVD book online... several book sites carry used copies and i simply couldn't afford the nearly $90 price when you last posted about it. so i'm thrilled to finally get my hands on it, even if a lot has changed in the years since you published it!
ReplyDeletejust wondering, it seems there are 2 editions... 1987 & 1997, if i remember correctly. is the second/more recent one an updated version of the first, or is it sort of an "add on" and i need to actually buy both? before i go spending the money i want to be sure i know what i need to get.
also, do you happen to know if there are any more recent books about the QVD as a whole (not just focusing on one individual family)?
Skip the 87 edition. The 1997 edition redid that book -- the update companion was published in 2001. Glad you found it. Sad I don't earn royalties :)
ReplyDeleteYes, I know about the program.
I bought the 1997 edition in Harrods that year. For years it was my favorite book. I don´t remember how much I paid for it at the moment. I am surprised now the cost can be 90 dolars!!!
