Duchess of Orléans - a formal portrait

Maria Dorothea, Duchess of Orleans
Marlene A. Eilers Koenig collection

Archduchess Maria Dorothea Amalie of Austria (1867-1932) was the second eldest daughter of Archduke Josef Karl of Austria and his wife, Princess Clotilde of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.

She married Prince Philippe, Duke of Orleans, eldest son of Prince Philippe, Count of Paris and Princess Marie Isabelle of Orleans at Vienna on November 5, 1896.

The marriage was not a happy one, as relations between the couple soon deteriorated, and the Duchess chose to spend most of her time at her family's Hungarian estate, Alcsut.  An attempted reconciliation by the Duke failed, but the Duchess chose to remain in Hungary.

They had no children.
