Yes, I am going to admit it: I turn the BIG 6-0 in June. Not that I have a choice about this. Of course, I want to go to London in late May, but the airfares from Washington, D.C., are absolutely way too high: at least $1300 with my AARP discount.
I have tried a myriad of airline fare search engines but the fares ... I cannot believe how high they are (blame it on all the fees.)
It will be years before I can earn a trip with enough airline miles. Depressing to say the least.
Even more depressing than turning 60.
I turned 60 three years ago and it beats the alternative. But that airfare sounds high to me...
ReplyDeleteI would suggest flying into Dublin with United or American that might work out cheaper and fly on with another carrier.
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest exactly as Tony. It's usually much cheaper to fly to Ireland and you can get a flight with Aer Lingus onto London ... They always have sales on!
DeleteI just used your PayPal link to "buy" the article of the royal cousins, but I do NOT need you to actually send it to me. I'm not sure what name will come up for the order - we use a family PayPal account, and it's under my parents' credit card with my sister's email and we all just pay our portion of the bill my parents' card has, so it probably will not be my name. The order was literally just placed (2:11) so you should know it's me. i'm actually having it sent straight to my kindle through amazon. i only "bought" it through there to give you the $10. as a small thanks for your work on the blog. :-)
ReplyDeletelike i've said before, i'm resting most of the time so have a lot of time to learn about whatever i want. if you ever reach a time (years down the road!) when you want to pass some of your knowledge on and have maybe an understudy, i live in fairfax so i'm just down the road from you! ;-)
also, have you considered taking amtrak to the NYC area and using the cheapest of their airports? my first-class amtrak ticket to Boston was only $132 and NYC is exactly halfway, so a regular ticket to NYC would probably be under $100. not exactly convenient but if it's a way to get where you want to go...
Thanks, Michelle, very sweet. I just saw the email.
ReplyDeleteHave you considered getting an agent and doing paid speaking engagements? You'd be marvellous.
ReplyDeletethanks but I do work full time
