Was the Emperor poisoned?

November 20, 1903

There are "sinister rumors" coming from Skiernewice, Poland, concerning the sudden death eight-year-old Princess Elisabeth of Hesse and by Rhine, a niece of Empress Alexandra, reports the Chicago Tribune.

The "unfortunate" Princess Elisabeth and her father, Grand Duke Ernst Ludwig, were staying with Nicholas and Alexandra, at the imperial retreat.   According to the rumors, there was an "attempt to poison the whole royal party."    Empress Alexandra became ill and Nicholas II was "more or less affected by the poison."
