It's a girl

Archduchess Kathleen of Austria, the American-born wife of Archduke Imre, gave birth in Kirchberg, Luxembourg, yesterday to a daughter, according to a paternal family member.  The couple live in Luxembourg.

The baby has been named Maria Stella.  One assumes there will be more names announced at the baptism.  It is possible the inspiration for the name comes from a Polish nun who was killed by the Gestapo.  The nun is now known as Blessed Maria Stella.

The former Kathleen Walker married Archduke Imre, eldest son and second child of Archduke Christian of Austria and Princess Marie Astrid of Luxembourg.

The couple were married on September 8, 2012, at St. Mary Mother of God Roman Catholic Church in Washington, D.C., where they first met.

This is the third grandchild and first granddaughter for Archduke Christian and Archduchess Marie Astrid.   Their eldest daughter, Archduchess Marie Christine, the wife of Count Rodolphe de Limburg-Stirum, gave birth to a second son, Count Constantin, on October 25.

I won't be surprised if Zita is one of Christian names!

  3. While the Polish nun Blessed Maria-Stella is certainly a possibility, I think it much more likely that Imre and Kathleen named their daughter for the Virgin Mary under her title Star of the Sea, which is 'Stella Maris' in Latin. Another title for Mary is 'Stella Matutina', which means 'Morning Star'. Especially since Imre and Kathleen were married on the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in a church named in her honour, it is clear they have a strong devotion to Our Lady. :)
