The Sunday Telegraph has an intriguing front-page story: Duke of York finds love again ... with an old flame, the Duchess of York.

Hmmm!  I consider the Duke of York to be the great enabler for Sarah, who has never been able to stand on her own two feet following the divorce.

She said in 1999: "There was no reason for Andrew and me to get divorced; there wasn't another person in our lives to go to.  We got divorced because I had to out to work, and Andrew and I believed it wasn't right for me to be commercial while I was still in the Royal family."

Really?  The reason for the divorce was because Sarah had to find work outside the Royal family.  I thought they got divorced because she committed adultery with Steve Wyatt, and was seen in the company of several men.

If Sarah had chosen to remain faithful to her husband, while he was away, and threw herself into her royal duties,  she and Andrew may not have divorced.  They could have had a long and happy marriage, perhaps, a third child, a son, to inherit the York dukedom.

But instead,  Sarah has had a series of very public mishaps, usually involving money or the need for money, and Andrew has been right there, to pick her up, wipe away the tears, and pay her debts.

  1. He is her # 1 enabler. She obviously thrives on it!

Do you think it is possible HM would issue a LP to not allow an HRH to Sarah, instead styling her as the wife of a non-royal duke?

  2. honestly, i think the only way for her to survive long-term (not necessarily physically, but mentally/emotionally) is for her to be with andrew. keeping in mind that, as i was born in 1986, i know of but do not personally recall the times in the early 90s where she messed up, i liked her. until that incident with offering access to andrew for money, at which point i accepted that there is NO excuse for that. all of that to say, i'm no big fan of hers.

that said... i think it's an extremely unique situation to be in, and one that there isn't really a manual to turn to. to be taken from relative normality to being part of what is likely the world's most famous family, then expected to live back in the "real world," that's a big leap. i think it's a lot more "do-able" if the cut is complete, but she was using her royal title (though not style) and still very much a part of the royal family (not the entire family, but her family with andrew, consisting entirely of blood-royals except for herself). so to be in BOTH worlds is, i think, extremely difficult.

and, frankly, if her shenanigans thus far haven't pushed him away, i have a hard time thinking of anything else she could do that WOULD end their relationship.

if they are in fact a couple again, do you see them making it official with another marriage? if that happens, is there any precedent to indicate what sort of form such a wedding would take?

  3. True, Marlene! Nevertheless, I've always had a soft spot for Sarah & the fact that the Duke of York has steadfastly stuck it out with her...well, it's very gallant of him. He's a far better man than I, in that respect.

  4. Barton Maxwell, you obviously are unfamiliar with real friendship and loyalty to one's friends. I have made it clear that I will not discuss someone who is a friend. Period. Full stop.

Michelle, I don't believe for a moment that Andrew and Sarah will ever remarry. If they do remarry, there will be announcement, etc. My crystal ball cracked a few years. I do not do predictions

  6. And wasn't she with Count Gaddo Della Gheradesca for a few years ? Marlene do you remember me shouting "Don't do it !" the day before when we camped out on The Mall ? Needless to say I'm not and never have been a fan of Sarah's...

  8. They have tried the marriage route and the not- married route. One didn't work for them, the other has worked very well. Don't see any reason to change now.

  9. they got divorced because she cheated on Andrew. She is with him because she does not have the required job skills to hold down a real job and support herself.

  10. It's a good thing for Sarah that she and Andrew have this "arrangement", otherwise she would be homeless and penniless. She has demonstrated several times (and never learned anything) that she has no concept of money.

  11. I would like to see Beatrice get a share of royal engagements, she seems enthusiastic. Andrew and Sarah raised nice daughters, or at least it seems.

  12. Beatrice and Eugenie are not going to carry out engagements on behalf of the Queen. They have taken on some patronages, etc., but are not listed in the Court Circular when they carry out these events.

  13. Why? It's nice for a granddaughter to represent the monarch rather than an aging cousin.

  14. This was decided some years ago that the royal family would be slimmed down. This has been the plan of the Prince of Wales .. and the York princesses have been largely frozen out of being included in official duties. This has not been the wish of their father. They also lost their personal protection officers.

  15. I've have tried to like Sarah but she is just so inherently awful in her attitude and lack of owning her own disasters, its always someone else's fault. She even admitted to living off handouts from her daughters trust funds a few years back. No doubt she will be trying to muscle in on Eugenie's new NY job connections and continue to leech off her and others in one form or other.

  16. I can't bring myself to like Sarah. She's using Andrew. If she had any love or respect for him she wouldn't constantly humiliate him with her actions. She knows very well that her behavior would make a normal person recoil from her. He's an enabler and she's a user.

Sarah's mouthpiece issued a statement saying that they were not reconciling.
