The Holy See has "declined to sanction" the marriage of Prince Ferdinand of Bulgaria to Princess Marie Louise of Bourbon-Parma, daughter of the former Duke of Parma. The Prince sought approval of the marriage, but he stipulated that any children born of the marriage will be raised in the Greek Orthodox faith.
Prince Ferdinand and Princess Marie Louise are Roman Catholics, but the faith of most Bulgarians is Orthodox.
The princess' father, Duke Roberto, will not allow her to marry Ferdinand unless the he agrees that the children be raised as Roman Catholic.
